How does dermal filler work?As we age, we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face which can make us look tired and sunken. This is caused by the body’s decreased ability to produce collagen and elastin. Unlike wrinkles which require muscle relaxants to soften them, facial volume and folds require a dermal filler to help re-volumise and hydrate the area.
-
What's the difference between filler and muscle relaxants? An easy way to remember the difference between the treatments is to think of fillers as injectables that add structure and volume to areas such as the cheeks, chin and lips. On the other hand, muscle relaxing treatments aim to reduce wrinkles by relaxing and softening the muscle to smooth the appearance of the skin.
-
What should I do for pre-care?Avoid blood thinning medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your medical practitioner).
-
What should I do for after-care?• Stay hydrated! The dermal filler we use works by using the water naturally stored in your tissues. By drinking plenty of water after having treatment, it helps the filler hold and last for longer. • Avoid placing pressure on the area, extreme heat and excessive exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
-
Is the treatment painful? There's no need to be nervous - discomfort is typically minimal and brief. Before any filler is injected, we apply a topical numbing cream to the area. The filler we use also includes a numbing agent that prevents the pain as we inject.
-
What are the side effects? The most common side effects occur within 24 hours or immediately post-treatment. These include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness. These side effects usually disappear within days. If you experience any persisting symptoms or are concerned in any way, please contact us immediately and we will schedule you for a complementary review. Please note we are unable to inject the same area again before two weeks has passed.
-
How long does filler last? The length of time your treatment will last depends on the area being treated and the way your body absorbs it. For some, dermal fillers can last for 6-12 months, while for others they can last years.
-
How much does it cost?We charge $600 per 1ml of dermal filler, $300 for 0.5ml.
-
Can my filler be removed? If there is an issue with your filler or you have simply changed your mind since having the procedure, Letitia can inject a special enzyme to the area that will dissolve the filler.
-
What is the recovery time?Following dermal filler treatments, redness and swelling may last up to 24 hours. Some clients may experience bruising for up to 7 days post-treatment.
-
Can I get cosmetic injectables while pregnant? No. Your safety is our main concern and for this reason, we do not treat clients who are pregnant. We advise against all cosmetic injectable treatments whilst pregnant simply out of precaution and due to the lack of information available on the effects of these treatments on the fetus.
